"Operation Sunrise" - 75 years ago

The renowned newspaper NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) commemorates the historic capitulation of the Germans at the end of WWII in northern Italy 75 years ago and the role Dr. Max Husmann, founder of Institut Montana, played in it.

The article of the NZZ points out, how Max Husmann got to know of the plans of the Germans to use the scorched earth tactic on their retreat from northern Italy: to destroy infrastructure and cultural treasure and to liquidate prisoners. He organized secret meetings between the Italians and Germans with the Swiss major Max Waibel and Allen Dulles from the American OSS. In the end there was the first partial surrender of the Germans in World War II.
