3 May 2026 was no ordinary Sunday for Institut Montana. Under a bright sky with soft clouds, the school celebrated its 100-year anniversary on the Zugerberg campus.

At the campus entrance, guests were welcomed by large blue balloon letters spelling ‘MONTANA’,  setting a festive tone for the day ahead. Throughout the campus, smaller red and blue balloons added to the celebratory atmosphere. As the morning unfolded, hundreds of visitors arrived to join the celebration. Adding to the joyful spirit of the day, Zugiblubbi, the beloved mascot of the Zugerbergbahn, also celebrated a birthday, delighting many of our younger guests.

Our anniversary parcours guided visitors through engaging stations that brought the past, present, and future of Institut Montana to life.  In our Chemistry Lab, guests watched fun, hands-on experiments, while at the cinema station, they explored our “BECOMING” documentary movies featuring alumni. Meanwhile, the “Montana Past” station transported visitors back to 1926, offering a museum-like journey through the school’s history and evolution, a powerful reminder of its enduring legacy.

Elsewhere in Chalet Suisse, our vibrant center of co-curricular activities, some engineering and robotics activities took attention of visitors of all ages. Inside the Photobox station, laughter and joy filled the air as our guests took their instant photos. On our anniversary day, we also had the honour to host Slavko Vranes, a former NBA player, who flew all the way to be part of our celebration! Together with Nemanja Mišković, a former Serbian national player, as well as our new Montana Basketball Academy lead, the two stars brought their professional skills and amazing energy to our basketball court.

Throughout the day in our Dining Hall and outdoor grill, guests enjoyed a variety of Swiss food. At the end of the parcours, visitors who completed stamps on their parcours map could participate in a raffle for a chance to win an exciting reward. It was indeed a wonderful day for everyone on campus.

Through the decades, Institut Montana has remained resilient, navigating global challenges, from times of conflict to economic crises and even a worldwide pandemic. Today, it continues to thrive, shaping future generations with the same spirit of innovation and community that has defined it for a century.

Happy 100th birthday, Institut Montana. Here’s to the next 100 years!

The celebration attracted more than a dozen local media attention. Check out the coverage from Tele 1 and Zuger Zeitung.
