We are Institut Montana

Our school was founded in 1926 in the belief that education can help make the world a better place. Today, this mission remains at the heart of life at Institut Montana.

An education in Switzerland means a high standard of living and a secure environment. It offers an abundance of learning and career-related opportunities. At Institut Montana, you will find all these and more.

We are a small family-like community of around 380 students who enjoy a multicultural environment of more than 55 nationalities. We offer Swiss and international academic programmes and a student to staff ratio of 4:1.

The academic programmes in our private elementary school, secondary school, Swiss high school and international high school are intellectually fulfilling but we also help dreams come true. Our campus on the Zugerberg provides a nurturing environment in an area of outstanding natural beauty. With opportunities beyond the curriculum to inspire ambitions as well as teach important skills for this changing world, you can prepare for an exciting future. You will graduate as a responsible young adult and a truly global citizen with a network of friends from all over the world.

This is your place to grow.

Bilingual Elementary School

Our private bilingual elementary school for grades 1-6 starts at age 6. Our classes are in English and German, so whichever you lack at the beginning you will quickly learn. You will benefit from individual support and small class sizes with a maximum of 15 students. You and your family can take advantage of our round-the-clock care (8:00-17:00). In our exceptional natural surroundings, afternoon care programmes are filled with activities such as forest walks in the summer and sledging in the winter.

Swiss High School

Our Swiss high school is a comprehensive and balanced six-year education for grades 7-12 that ultimately leads to the federally recognised Swiss Matura. You can choose between the German-taught Swiss Matura or our English bilingual track. Successful completion gains access to many top Swiss universities without further entrance requirements. It can also be a valid qualification to support your application to other universities around the world.

International School

Our international school has been offering the IB Diploma programme since 1987. Today, it welcomes students from grades 7-12, preparing younger students for the IB with the IGCSE Cambridge Lower Secondary programme. These challenging courses help all students to excel as they learn the critical thinking skills will use in all aspects of their future lives. You can either opt for the IB Diploma or a high school diploma as you prepare for your preferred university destination worldwide.

Summer Session

Our summer school is for students aged 10 to 15 who are looking for a fun and enriching summer while enjoying a taste of life at Institut Montana. Mornings are dedicated to learning English or German and afternoons are devoted to fascinating workshops based on business, arts, science and sports. You can choose to stay for 2- or 4-weeks. The Summer Sessions include exciting weekend excursions, and opportunities to make new, lifelong friends.

Bilingual Secondary School

Our private secondary school is designed to offer intensive language support as well as a personalised learning approach to prepare for entrance to our Swiss high school or international high school. From grades 7-9, you will receive extra tutoring sessions based on your learning needs. Upon successful completion of your course, you will also earn a Swiss secondary school certificate.

Extracurricular Activities

Our extracurricular activities will encourage you to learn new skills and take on new challenges. With a wide selection to choose from, you can do ice hockey or cross-country skiing in the winter or play tennis or beach volleyball in the summer. You can explore our campus with hikes or nearby mountains for skiing. We also offer a Model United Nations Club, Drama Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Choir and more. The choice is yours!
