A golden reunion on the Zugerberg

The 1975 Matura Class returned to our campus for their 50th anniversary.

On Saturday, July 12, Institut Montana welcomed back members of the Matura Class of 1975 for their golden reunion, marking fifty years since their graduation from the Zugerberg campus.

As alumnus Tjalling Ament beautifully reflected:
"What lasts after all these years isn’t grades or trophies. It’s the friendships, the laughter, and the bond that time can’t break. Institut Montana has forged that bond, and that’s what makes Montana so special in our hearts."

Six classmates travelled from the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland to take part in the celebration. They were later joined by six additional alumni from other graduating years, who spontaneously joined the gathering, making the day even more memorable.

We are happy to share a heartfelt recap of the day, which we received from Tjalling Ament, Class of 1975:

Can you believe it’s been fifty years? Here we are again—older, maybe wiser—at our beloved Institut Montana, which has been our special home. Most of us have not seen each other for many years. Our faces have changed, our hair has turned silver, but the bonds remain. Almost immediately we laugh at the same old stories, tease each other like we used to, and find ourselves thinking: we’re still the same kids—just with a few more wrinkles.

We talked about the mischief, being co-conspirators in the adventures of boarding school life, our teachers, and the resilience that carried us through our school days. In our school chapel, we shared an emotionally intimate moment together as we light candles for our deceased roommates and Matura classmates. Their memories are part of us.

We had a well-organized lunch in our famous and still familiar Speisesaal. During our tour of the modernized campus, we tried to find our old rooms. Wow, so much has changed! We also visited The Chalet, where some of us once had rooms with balconies and a view of Lake Zug. To finish the day, we enjoyed a relaxed happy hour and BBQ dinner in front of the tennis courts, with a beautiful sunset. It was truly a perfect day.

What lasts after all these years isn’t grades or trophies—it’s the friendships, the laughter, and the bond that time can’t break. Institut Montana forged that bond, and that is what makes Montana such a special place in our hearts.

So here’s to us—the Class of 1975. To the ones we remember, and to the fact that no matter how much time passes, we can still pick up right where we left off.
